http://www.TheCosmeticsCampus.com – Cosmetics coach Lisa Liddiard shares how to use makeup and skin care to hide puffy eyes and diminish the look of hooded eye lids.

This is a video response to a question one of my subscribers asked and her name is Frances.

Frances wants to know how to hide puffy under eyes and apply makeup to hooded eye lids.

First, puffy under eyes. This can be heriditary. It can also be agrivated by too much salt and not enough sleep. It’s happened to me a few times in my life. When it does, the first thing I grab is cucumbers and detox tea bag. Lay in the tub and let the cucumbers sit on both eyes for a second, then grab a used tea bag and do the same. You can also apply a bit of hemrhrod cream and that can shrink that area a bit.

Make sure your useing good skin care, especially an eye cream with ‘cafeeine’. The one I use has that inside and it tightens up and smooths out the under eye.

As for makeup for puffy eyes, this will actually cause a bigger problem if you apply more than just the usual. Your eye will gravitate towards the extra makeup, so just put on a bit of foundation under the eye using your foundation brush and leave it alone.

Hooded eyes is when the top lid is saggy and hangs down onto the lashes. This seems to be the biggest problem with certain people as they age. I had many clients with this when I owned my spa and worked as a makeup artist.

Applying makeup to this area can really hide this flaw. Surgery can take it away, but makeup can provide a happy solution.

Apply the darker crease color up farther towards the brow. Dark colors ‘recede’ or push back, light colors pop out or highlight. So, applying darker eye shadow in the crease, but extending it farther up will push back that area and hide the flaw.

Accent the lashes to draw the eye away from the flaw. Use a dark brown, black, or grey mineral powder eye shadow using your brow brush and apply a line as close to the upper lashes as you can. This gives the appearance of thick lashes. Then, apply mascara to finish the look. Also, play up the lips to draw the attention away from the lids.

Always use matte eye shadow colors. Stay away from shimmer and glitter eye shadow colors as they tend to draw too much attention to flaws.

fun fun easy trick!

ALSO Mac stores sell a product called VIRGIN ISLE CREAM COLOR BASE. this may work better for some of you and seem less weird than using lipstick!

KEY POINTERS:

always use eyecream! it will help depuff your undereyes, help keep soften the dark circles, and help keep the wrinkles away.

if youre using an orange based product under your eyes, ONLY put it on top of the blue/purple in the dark circles, and you ONLY NEED A SMALL AMOUNT! if you put it over any other part of your skin, it wont help and will be obvious. the orange is meant to cancel out the blue, not anything else!

ALWAYS use a warm pink toned concealer under your eyes! your face and body may have more yellow or cool tones, but always use a warm based concealer under your eyes (this would be an NW shade for mac users).

Also, you want to go a shade lighter than your normal concealer/foundation shade for under eyes. this will help highlight the area, rather than darkening it, which will make the dark circles look worse.
